It’s probably not a surprise to you when I tell you that there are a lot of animals at Caldwell Zoo. The zoo is home to over 2,000 animals, comprised of more than 250 species. Visitors can explore various exhibits that showcase animals in environments designed to mimic their natural habitats. Popular exhibits include the African Savanna, North America, Wild Bird Walkabout, and the Great Barrier Reef. All of these exhibits are done very well and compare to larger city zoos around the country. You won’t be disappointed!
Another highlight on the do-not-miss list is the Giraffe Safari, where visitors can hand-feed giraffes. It’s a unique and interactive experience that allows you to get up close and personal with these majestic creatures. Romaine lettuce is used mostly and the giraffes show their amazing black tongues when they feed. Bring your young ones for an unforgettable experience that they’re unlikely to forget.
Australian Outback Adventure
As the name implies, the Australian Outback Experience exhibit features animals native to Australia, including kangaroos, wallabies, and emus. The habitat is designed to resemble the natural look of the Australian outback and provides an educational experience about the continent’s wildlife. This exhibit is great for older kids and teens.
Caldwell Zoo is home to a wide variety of primates, including chimpanzees, lemurs, and capuchin monkeys. The Primate Paradise exhibit allows visitors to observe these intelligent and social animals in environments that encourage natural behaviors. Another don’t-miss exhibit!
Enjoy the vibrant pink hues of the flamingos in this exhibit. Flamingo Bay offers a picturesque setting where visitors can observe these graceful birds in a habitat that mimics their natural surroundings. If you’re lucky enough to get close enough, be sure to look closely into their eyes. Very strange!
Caldwell Conservation Carousel
Caldwell features a beautifully crafted carousel with hand-carved wooden animals. Taking a ride on the Caldwell Conservation Carousel is a delightful experience for visitors of all ages. Get there early on warmer days to avoid a crowd.
